In the second half of the 19th century, Montreal confirmed its status as Canada's metropolis. The richest families had large mansions built on the slope of the Mount Royal. The area of about one square mile covered what is today's downtown and an enlarged McGill campus. McGill University was one of the main institutions and is still today one prestigious symbol of the city and the starting point of this tour. Tours usually last 120 minutes.
